'Let's Read It, Before We See It'
Do you enjoy reading? Do you enjoy movies? Then we have an opportunity for you to participate in both. Starting Tuesday, July 27th, I will be hosting a book club/group. We will read and discuss the first 2 books in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series, The Capture and The Journey. The series begins with "Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father's epic stories of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones. While Soren dreams of someday joining his heroes, his older brother, Kludd, scoffs at the notion, and yearns to hunt, fly and steal his father's favor from his younger sibling. But Kludd's jealousy has terrible consequences--causing both owlets to fall from their treetop home and right into the talons of the Pure Ones. Now it is up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave young owls. Together they soar across the sea and through the mist to find the Great Tree, home of the legendary Guardians of Ga'Hoole--Soren's only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms." The logistics of our group (I am trying this for the first time so we might need to be a little flexible.).... 1. Each week the children will be responsibile for reading a certain number of pages (about 10 per night). If you want to make it a family activity you can. Read together each night. Talk about what is happening in the story, predict what will happen next, etc. 2. On Tuesday's, we will meet from 3:45-4:30 to discuss the book. We will incorporate some the skills taught in the classroom, like retelling, summarizing, inferencing, predicting, etc. But most of all we will just have fun reading and talking about the book. 3. Each student and family is invited to join us at the movies to watch the Legend of the Guardians. Date and time to be determined but the release date is scheduled for September 24th. If you are interested please complete the form below and email it to Miss Minton at cminton@wcpss.net. (We are trying to go green and save paper!) I hope many of you will join us and we will see you Tuesday, July 28th.
